News

Summer Info
It is the end of July and it is time I bring the site up to date.

First of all, congratulations to Jonathan and Michael for breaking into semi-finals at Nationals. Great going, guys!

Our tournament schedule starts early this year. Long Beach Tournament is the first weekend of October and Fullerton has been changed to the 3rd weekend of October rather than in January. We need to start meetings immediately upon the beginning of the school year.

I would like to ask that the meetings be changed to Weds. Your presidential council will discuss this and it will be announced.

We need to start fundraising ASAP. Jonathan's mom will get the wrapping paper info so we can start immediately in Sept for the holidays. If we have 2-3 weeks to sell to your families and neighbors, we can raise a great deal of money. We didn't get a grant from the Friends of the Gifted Magnet and Sean can't talk to anyone until school starts.

Finally, I would really like everyone to do an IE event this year. I think it would be terrific to beat Monroe or at least score up with them at every tournament this year. You all are talented enough to do this.

Finally, Jacquie retired from Chaminade and has offered to let us see her vast supply of IE scripts. Let's take her up on it this year!!!!

Alternate Tournament Results
Great tournament for NoHo. JHad and Sam WON Parli!!!
Sean finished 4th in Congress. Jonathan Ganezer missed semis in Impromptu by speaker points...he was tied.

Good finish to a great season, team!!!

State Results
Congratulations to Jonathan, Rachel and Michael on their terrific representation of all of us at State. Michael finished 8th in Congress. I know that Rachel and Jonathan were disappointed, but you should be very proud of your achievement.

Dropdown menu problems
Hey guys, it's Oliver. If you're wondering why the menu disappears sometimes it's probably because someone entered a tournament name with an apostrophe in it, like the Spat'n'Squeak. I fixed it but try not to use any apostrophes in titles.

Next Meeting date
All meetings are suspended until Thursday May 8. See you then!!!

NFL Results
Sam and Robert got to semi-finals in PoFo and lost to a terrific Valencia team that qualified for NFL.

Congratulations to all of you who competed.

NFL Results
What a great tournament!!! JHAD qualified for the NFL Tournament in the Senate and Jordan finished an amazing 6th. In the House, Michael qualified for NFL with a second place; Sean was 3rd and 1st alternate if someone doesn't go. Oliver placed 10th.

I hope all of you know that Fidel Castro resigned from office and that he is not dead as one Senator insisted.

IE Quals
Congratuations to Rachel for placing 2 and qualifying for the State Tourament.

Congress Quals
Congratulations to EVERYONE who competed!! I am proud of all of you.

Michael and Jonathan went 2-3 and are going to the State Tournament.

Monroe Tourament
Congratulations to Rachel for coming in first in DI and Jordan for coming in third in DI. Way to go, guys.

La MIrada Tournament wins
Congratulations to JHad, Michael H., and Rachel for their valient efforts at La Mirada. Michael and Rachel went to the semis in their events and JHad finished second in LD.

FULLERTON SWEEP!!
What a GREAT tournament! Everyone did well. Rachel broke to semi finals in DI. Jordan didn't and was estatic because he decided he hates DI and never wants to do it again. JHad and Michael broke in LD to Octofinals and JHAD ended up in the finals and placing 2nd. Michael demanded his trophy for the event and was placated by receiving one. Sam did better than he has in the past and then got sick and had to go home. Until then, he was having a great time.

Armine was delighted that I was able to enter her into Open Persuation since I actually deleted her from the entry list and couldn't believe that she showed up at school on Sat. Kaci doesn't know that a computer glitch actually entered her in TI rather than HI and I had to straighten that out when we got to the tournament on Sat.
Robert Ward thought that extempt was interesting especially when he was forced to make up his entire speech because he didn't know anything about the topic.

We had 10 Congress competitors and all did great! I think that Deepak and Issac got robbed because they didn't break. They should have. I saw both compete and they were very good.

Justin Y, Thomas, and Vinay's highlight was getting stuck in an elevator for 1 1/2 and missing most of the finals while Cal State Fullerton had to call an elevator repairman to free them. Krikor finished #10 in novice Congress. While we were waiting for the announcement of Open results, Jonathan and Michael hugged each other knowing that they finished in the top 3 and then the announcement. Jonathan finished #2 and MICHAEL WON!!! Make them show you their trophies. Michael also received a $100 scholarship to attend Cal State Fullerton.

Great going all of you!!!!

Policy on drops for tournaments
I want to remind everyone that the policy for dropping out of a tournament that you have signed up for is that you are still obligated to pay for the tournament and hotel room. Those of you who are not going to Fullerton are responsible to get me checks for $100. The trip costs were calculated for all based on the total number who had committed. It isn't fair to the others to have to raise their costs significantly because you decided not to attend at the last minute.

Great Results from SOCES
The team did wonderfully at SOCES this weekend! Michael Harris got Second Place in Extemporaneous Speaking, as well Fifth Place in Impromptu, with Jonathan Haderlein placing right behind Michael with a Sixth place in Impromptu, the two of them defeating more than sixty competitors! The great success of the tournament was Jordan Kucharski's fabulous picket fence of Dramatic Interpretation, taking home first place! The team took home four trophies, and congratulations are in order to everyone who took the time to compete!

Another incredible tournament and congratulations to everyone who participated. We took 7 trophies. Jonathan Haderlein took 2, 1st place in his house and the PO award for his house. Deepak took 2nd place in his house. Kelsey, Jordan, Justin, Vinay, Krikor took trophies in their respective houses. Jonathan Ganezer took an honorable mention.
